Luz

$915

Luz, an abbreviation of Nossa Senhora Da luz or ‘Our Lady of Light,’ is a subtle symphony of perspective inspired by the dance of sunlight and shadow on Lisbon’s azulejos.

Combining both knotted and flatwoven wool, the complex construction of this design calls for the hands of our master weavers.

In the details

Entirely yours

The corner of a rug that expresses its unique craftsmanship

Every rug is made by hand from 100% natural wool, which means there will be beautiful variations in pattern and color authored by Mother Nature herself. These are sure signs of an authentic Moroccan rug made for and by idiosyncratic people. Final sizes can vary by up to 5% from the size ordered.

Plush comfort

The surface of rug that expresses the luxurious height of its pile

Our standard knotted pile height averages 1.25". If you prefer a lower or higher knotted pile, please email us and a Beni designer will work with you on a specific pile height.

Fringe benefits

A corner view of a rug and its long flowing tassels

Traditional Moroccan rugs feature tassels — the fringe at the end of the rug's borderline — just on one side. Superstitiously so, as having them on both sides is viewed as unlucky. You can order your rug with or without them, it's up to you. Tassels range in length between 4 and 6 inches.

A tidy alternative

The perspective of a rug without tassels, and in its place, a tidy border

You can pass on tassels altogether if you so choose. If you do, your rug will feature a neat little binding that can vary from design to design. These variations are like calling cards for each weaver's work.

Like notes that shape music

Catalan painter Joan Miró once said that he tried to apply colors like words that shape poems, like notes that shape music. With every rug comes your choice of natural hues, each a choice that will inform your interior and the mood it evokes. Get a feel for your future rug in your space by ordering swatches and observing them throughout the day as the light changes.

the proof is in the process

Fast gets the attention, but slow has all the power

Though there are many steps in the making of every rug, our washing is where innovation braids into the traditional craft most technically. Once woven, each finished design is showered up to five times and dried on handmade racks under the warmth of the desert sun in our courtyard until it's time to move along. As if by sleight of hand, the moisture from the water and heat from the cloudless sky locks in the rug's pigment while breaking down and softening the wool’s natural fibers. Three years of research and development went into this one, proprietary step in the production process, resulting in resilient rugs that will last lifetimes.
